ServiceNow Layoffs: Several Hundred Confirmed, Up to 1,000 Reported. Are Enterprise Software Jobs Safe?

ServiceNow layoffs: the company confirms a low single-digit percent cut, several hundred roles. One report says up to 1,000. What it means for software jobs.

ServiceNow has confirmed a restructuring that affected a "low single-digit" percentage of its global workforce, which works out to several hundred roles on 29,187 employees at the end of 2025. The figure of about 1,000 jobs comes from a Börse Global report of 31 July 2026 and a layoff tracker, not from a company statement or filing. As of 12 October 2026, that is the honest range: a confirmed percentage that works out to several hundred roles, and up to 1,000 reported.

How many jobs is ServiceNow actually cutting?

ServiceNow has not published a number. A company spokesperson told Business Insider the restructuring had hit a "low single-digit" percentage of the global workforce, as relayed by People Matters on 29 July 2026. Against a base of 29,187 employees, People Matters calculates that as "several hundred roles". That is an inference from the percentage, not a company figure.

The larger number is a separate claim. Börse Global reports "up to 1,000" positions this year, tied to integrating acquisitions, and the Intellizence tracker lists ServiceNow with 1,000 jobs and an August 2026 date. The tracker row carries no source text, and the press coverage it appears to echo is from late July.

Was there an announcement, WARN notice or filing?

No public announcement set out a number. HRKatha reported on 12 June 2026 that the company "did not publicly announce the workforce reduction". The changes happened over several months rather than in one round, according to Analytics Insight.

No WARN notice or SEC filing with a job-cut number is cited in the coverage of this restructuring.

Which roles and teams are affected?

ServiceNow has not published a breakdown by team, country or seniority. HRKatha, drawing on accounts from employees and former staff on professional networks, lists solution consulting, sales, product marketing, and learning and development. Those are customer-facing and enablement functions rather than core engineering.

Treat that list as indicative, not confirmed. The company has not said which functions or locations were affected, nor disclosed severance terms.

Why is ServiceNow cutting while it is growing?

The company reported strong results on 22 July 2026. Q2 subscription revenues were $3,877 million, up 24.5% year over year (23% in constant currency), and the company raised its full-year subscription revenue outlook. These are company-reported figures.

So the cuts are not a response to falling sales. Three reasons appear in the coverage:

  1. Acquisition integration. People Matters names Armis and Veza as recently completed acquisitions, and Börse Global adds Moveworks. The restructuring is described as likely meant to streamline operations as these businesses are integrated.
  2. AI productivity. HRKatha's account of the company's statement says AI is already improving productivity within its own operations, and that the company continues to recruit talent with AI-related expertise.
  3. Headcount discipline. Bill McDermott said at the start of the year that ServiceNow would end 2026 with the same headcount it started with. A flat year-end number means roles cut in one area are offset by hiring in another.

Is this part of a pattern at other enterprise software companies?

Yes, two other large software vendors made cuts in 2026, but their stated reasons differ.

Workday's second round was reported as about 500 jobs, but that is a calculation on 20,896 employees at 31 July 2026, not a company figure. HubSpot's CEO, Yamini Rangan, said the cuts were not driven by "AI-related efficiencies" and were not "simply a cost-cutting exercise". The Globe also notes that the company's AI pivot played a part in the restructuring.

The common thread is not "AI replaces engineers". It is reorganisation: flatter structures, fewer non-revenue and enablement roles, and money moved toward AI products.

What does this mean for mid-career and senior workers?

The reported pattern points at function and layer more than at seniority. Customer operations (Workday), solution consulting and sales support (ServiceNow, per employee accounts) and management layers (HubSpot) are where the named cuts fall. HubSpot's severance is at least 20 weeks of base pay, which is a useful benchmark when negotiating elsewhere. ServiceNow has not disclosed its terms.

Practical steps for anyone in a similar role:

  1. Map your role to revenue or product. Workday's February cuts fell mostly on non-revenue roles, so be able to show how your work ties to revenue or product.
  2. Document AI-assisted workflow changes you have made. McDermott has encouraged employees to redesign workflows with new technology, according to People Matters. Concrete examples of measured results carry weight in interviews.
  3. Watch the hiring side. The company says it is recruiting people with AI expertise. Check ServiceNow's own careers page for current postings and ignore reposts on aggregators, which can be stale.
  4. Read the paperwork. If you receive a separation notice, ask for the formal termination date, the consultation process where local law requires one, and severance terms in writing.

What's still unclear?

  • The real number. The company confirms a percentage, not a count. Several hundred is an inference, and up to 1,000 is a press report. A company filing giving a count would settle it.
  • Timing. HRKatha described a three-figure number of roles by 12 June 2026, while People Matters on 29 July says the changes happened over several months. The tracker says August. These are likely different stages of one rolling process, but no source says so.
  • AI versus integration. Coverage offers both explanations. Nobody outside the company can split the two.
  • Net effect. If year-end headcount ends flat, as McDermott said, the cut roles are matched by new hires. Which skills those hires carry has not been published.
  • The weakest point of the "AI reorganisation" story. Workday and HubSpot both said their cuts were not simply about AI efficiency. A pattern of restructuring across three vendors does not by itself show AI is the cause.

Frequently asked questions

How many jobs is ServiceNow cutting?

ServiceNow has not published a number. A company spokesperson told Business Insider the restructuring affected a low single-digit percentage of its global workforce, which People Matters calculates as several hundred roles on 29,187 employees at the end of 2025. German outlet Börse Global reports up to 1,000 positions this year, a figure the company has not confirmed.

Did ServiceNow file a WARN notice or SEC filing for the layoffs?

No filing with a job-cut number has been cited in the coverage. HRKatha reported on 12 June 2026 that the company did not publicly announce the workforce reduction. Without a filing, the company's own wording, a low single-digit percentage of the workforce, is the only official sizing available as of 12 October 2026.

Is ServiceNow cutting jobs because of AI?

The company says AI is already improving productivity inside its own operations, according to HRKatha's account of its statement. Coverage also points to integrating acquisitions such as Armis and Veza. ServiceNow has not published a breakdown of how much of the reduction is due to AI versus integration, so the split is unknown.

Is ServiceNow still hiring?

ServiceNow says it continues to recruit talent with AI-related expertise, per HRKatha's report of its statement. CEO Bill McDermott said the company would end 2026 with the same headcount it started with, which implies hiring in some areas offsets cuts in others. Check the employer's own careers page for current postings.

Which other software companies cut jobs in 2026?

Workday disclosed about 400 cuts in February and a second round of about 2.5% of its workforce on 29 September 2026. HubSpot announced on 6 October 2026 that it is laying off nearly 660 employees, about 7% of its workforce. Both are sourced from press reports of company filings and announcements.
