How to Get Into Infosys' 20,000-Fresher FY27 Batch: Roles, Skills and Salary Bands Reported So Far
Infosys fresher hiring FY27 targets at least 20,000 graduates, but headcount fell to 328,062 in June 2026. Roles, reported pay bands and how to prepare.
Infosys says it expects to hire at least 20,000 freshers in FY27, the same level as FY26, according to CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka's April 2026 comments reported by Outlook Business. Yet total headcount ended June 2026 at 328,062, down 532 in the quarter, so the target and the headcount trend point in different directions. This guide separates what Infosys has said from what is still unpublished.
How many freshers is Infosys actually hiring in FY27?
The company's stated plan is at least 20,000 freshers in FY27, which runs from April 2026 to March 2027. Sanghrajka said Infosys hired more than 20,000 freshers from the market in FY26 and expects "at least 20,000" again, per Outlook Business (24 April 2026).
After the June quarter, CEO Salil Parekh said: "This year we have a plan to recruit 20,000 college graduates. We have already done over 4,000 in the first quarter," as reported by People Matters (24 July 2026). HRKatha reports the same figure.
That leaves roughly 16,000 hires for the remaining three quarters if the target is met. These are company statements of intent, not offers in hand.
Why did Infosys headcount fall if it is still hiring?
Headcount is net of people leaving, and utilisation and project volumes drive it. Infosys headcount fell by 8,440 to 328,594 in the March 2026 quarter, ending six straight quarters of growth. Sanghrajka called the dip seasonal and tied to softer volumes, saying "Headcount is a function of utilisation and the volumes we see" (Outlook Business).
In the June 2026 quarter headcount slipped another 532 to 328,062, though it was still up 4,274 from 323,788 a year earlier (People Matters). Annualised attrition rose to 13% from 12.6% (HRKatha).
| Quarter ended | Infosys headcount | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| June 2025 | 323,788 | n/a | People Matters, 24 July 2026 |
| March 2026 | 328,594 | down 8,440 in the quarter | Outlook Business, 24 April 2026 |
| June 2026 | 328,062 | down 532 in the quarter | HRKatha, 24 July 2026 |
The practical reading for a student: Infosys can onboard 4,000 freshers in a quarter and still show a headcount decline, because experienced staff leave and utilisation changes. Fresher hiring replaces leavers as much as it adds seats.
How does the company's outlook affect fresher seats?
Hiring tracks revenue visibility. Infosys guided in April 2026 for FY27 revenue growth of 1.5% to 3.5% in constant currency and an operating margin of 20% to 22%, according to its Form 6-K filed with the SEC (23 April 2026). After Q1, People Matters reports the upper end was narrowed to 3%, so the range became 1.5% to 3%.
Low single-digit growth means the company is not scaling headcount fast. A flat 20,000 target against that guidance suggests steady refresh of the entry-level base, not expansion. Peers diverged in the same quarter: TCS added about 9,200 to reach 593,798, HCLTech fell by 3,292 and Wipro added 888. What roles and pay bands have been reported for Infosys freshers?
The only role-level pay bands reported come from an off-campus drive for 2025 engineering and computer science graduates, not an FY27 notice. Moneycontrol's reporting, relayed by Storyboard18 (first published 26 December 2025), lists these annual trainee packages:
| Role | Reported annual pay | Batch it applied to | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Specialist Programmer L3 trainee | Rs 21 lakh | 2025 graduates | Storyboard18 citing Moneycontrol, Dec 2025 |
| Specialist Programmer L2 trainee | Rs 16 lakh | 2025 graduates | Storyboard18 citing Moneycontrol, Dec 2025 |
| Specialist Programmer L1 trainee | Rs 11 lakh | 2025 graduates | Storyboard18 citing Moneycontrol, Dec 2025 |
| Digital Specialist Engineer trainee | Rs 7 lakh | 2025 graduates | Storyboard18 citing Moneycontrol, Dec 2025 |
The same report quotes Group CHRO Shaji Mathew as saying Infosys is taking an AI-first approach and has expanded opportunities in the Specialist Programmer track. The Rs 21 lakh figure is the top of the range. Treat all of these as reported, not contractual.
No FY27 bands have been published as of 13 October 2026. Wait for the company's own offer letter rather than relying on third-party salary listings.
Who is eligible for the Infosys fresher drives?
For the drive described above, the reported eligibility was BE, BTech, ME, MTech, MCA and integrated MSc graduates in computer science, information technology and select circuit branches such as electronics and communication and electrical and electronics (Storyboard18).
Percentage cut-offs, backlog rules and graduation-year windows vary by drive and are set in each notification. Third-party guides quote different minimums, so rely on the notice for your batch on the company's careers section at infosys.com, or on your college placement cell. Infosys has said early-career hiring combines campus and off-campus drives, so there are at least two doors.
What skills should you build before applying?
The pay table itself is the best guide: the jump from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 21 lakh sits on the Specialist Programmer track, which the company positions around specialised, AI-oriented skills. A realistic plan for a student, built from that signal rather than from any published syllabus:
- Data structures and algorithms. Practise problems until timed coding rounds feel routine.
- One language in depth. Pick Java, Python or C++ and be able to explain how your own code works.
- Projects you can defend. Two or three small projects with code on GitHub beat a long list of certificates.
- Applied AI literacy. Infosys leadership describes its approach as AI-first, and AI services were 8.2% of Q1 revenue according to People Matters. Know how to use coding assistants and how to check their output.
- Aptitude and communication. Mass-hiring rounds still screen on these, so practise them early.
Infosys has not published a required skills matrix for this track, so treat this as preparation advice, not an official checklist.
When will you hear back, and what happens at the next results?
Infosys reports Q2 FY27 results on 23 October 2026, after a board meeting on 22 and 23 October, per Upstox and Kotak Neo. Watch three numbers: the September headcount, how many freshers have been onboarded in the half year, and whether the 20,000 target is repeated. Salary hikes are a second signal. Infosys said most employees would get hikes in October and senior employees in January (People Matters).
What's still unclear?
- Application routes for FY27. Current deadlines, tests and eligibility for the 2026-27 intake are not confirmed here; check the careers section at infosys.com.
- Pay for the FY27 batch. Published bands are from a 2025-graduate drive. Whether they carry over has not been stated.
- How many of the 20,000 are campus versus off-campus. Parekh referred to "college graduates", while the CFO said freshers hired "from the market". The split has not been published.
- Joining dates. A target of 20,000 says nothing about when offers convert to start dates. Headcount fell in two straight quarters, which is the weakest point in any plan that assumes steady onboarding.
